Thomas Kellner
Break the Structure - Thomas Kellner"I think I am more of an artist than a photographer. There are definitions in art about ‘construction/ deconstruction’ or ‘collage/ decollage,’ but I don’t think any of it really fits what I am doing right now. Many have said it is ‘very German,’ and that might be closer."
Thomas Kellner was born on 28th of may 1966 in Bonn, Germany, he is a fine-art photographer, lecturer and curator. His large-format photos of famous architectural monuments gained him lots of recognition, these photos look like 'photo mosaics' through the use of lots of individual images with shifted camera perspective. He uses the traditional film photography process and only one roll of film to create montages, he often takes photos of the same landmarks and famous buildings from various different angles to then rearrange them on a contact sheet, creating a unique composition. His work presents a different view of well known landmarks, this new perspective makes us question our thoughts on how we visually process them and develop a sense of place. Kellner's work imitates the wondering look of the eye through showing sections that create a full image when put together. this could be seen as reconstructing out view of architecture as oppose to deconstructing it.

For this editing process I chose a photo I took of buildings around my school and opened it in photoshop. I then overlaid a contact sheet over the top scaling it to cover the image underneath. Using the magic wand tool I selected all the white squares where frames would be and deleted them this meant you could see parts of the photo underneath. I duplicated the image of the building underneath twice and transformed and rotated them both slightly in opposite directions. Using the magic wand tool again I selected some boxes deleting them from the first building layer, I then did this deleting from both the first and second building layer meaning you could see the bottom layer. I kept doing this alternating which squares would stay and which would change, I also varied which direction squares were visible. once I was happy with it I saved the image and uploaded it to my Weebly.

For this task I needed photos of different buildings so I went round streets in central London taking photos of different buildings that I could then use them for edits.

Brazilian photographer David Copithorne created some amazing images by mixing film, digital manipulation and geometry. The photographer states: “My motivation and dedication is to capturing the amazing scenarios that are missed by the average eye. I seek natural scenarios that you can’t find in a studio and attempt to visually adapt the vast crooks and corners of the world into my own creative output. To me, that’s where amazing photographs are born – that split second can change your life and ready or not you can change the world with a single digital image
“These photos are a result of how intriguing the concept of distortion translates to architecture. It creates a sense of falling into itself, like capturing a moment of demolition. I can destroy titanous steel structures with the click of a mouse and create new twisted versions of reality. I was also inspired by San Francisco. I had just moved here and being a new city was disorienting and exciting and I wanted to capture how my whole world had changed.”

For my editing process I imported the photo into photoshop and made sure grids and rulers were on. I then created a centre point with guides. Using the eclipse tool whilst holding shift and alt, I created a circle from the centre point. while the circle was still selected I copied and pasted it in the same place, next I used transform to slightly rotate the image. I redid these steps but making the circle slightly smaller each time until I thought it looked good. Then I was left with a twisted shape in the photo, this made the buildings look warped. to turn this process into a gif I went to windows and turned on timeline, then changed it to 'frame animation'. I selected all my layers then selected make frames from layers, afterwards I selected the frames, copy and pasting them into the timeline. with these still selected I reversed the frames to create a loop gif. I then had to go through each frame selecting which layers I wanted visible for that specific frame. Once this was done I exported it for web so I could upload it to my Weebly whilst it being a working gif.

Myoung Ho Lee photographs solitary trees framed against white canvas backdrops in the middle of natural landscapes
Myoung Ho Lee, a young artist from South Korea, has produced an elaborate series of photographs that pose some unusual questions about representation, reality, art, environment and seeing.
Simple in concept, complex in execution, he makes us look at a tree and its structure in its natural surroundings, but separates the tree artificially from nature by presenting it on an immense white ground, as one would see a painting or photograph on a billboard.

Strand one - Rut Blees
for this strand i was inspirthe photogrpaher Rut Blees. she is a photographer born in germany in 1967. growing up she studied political science in Duisburg. as well as this she attended the london college of printing in 1993 to complete her BA in photography. in 1996 she Blees graduated from the university of wesminster with an MA in photography. she is a tutor at the royal college of art. for her work she takes photographs at night that explore and present urban landscape. she was awarded an honorary fellowship of the roysl photographic society, bristol in 2020.
To create photos inspired by this photogrpaher i went rounfat night looking for appartment blocks in my local area and took photos. to create better effects i lowered my exposure to enphasise the darkness. i tried to use buildings where there was lighting shown through different windows in the appartments. this shows the idea of people in society and the difference between the people living there as some have lights on and others not, as well as this you can see the different lights people use. this reflects the idea of how people have their own individual lives. as well as this is tried to find appartment blocks with different looks to them to show differences in buildings.
WWW. effective night photography responding well to the photographer and reflecting the idea of society through my photos.

strand two - Juana Gomez
Earlier in looking at the topic stucture in photography we worked on work inspired by Danny Quirk who focuses on photo realistic painting and watercolours of what the camera cant capture. This was a very interesting project which made me look into similar photographers. this led me to find the photographer Juana Gomez, they both look at the presenting the organs inside of the body on the outside.
juana gomez was born in 1980 in santiago and is a chilean artist. she is well known for her embroidery work which shows the human body, she is consistent using the body as her main focus in her projects. in 2007 gomez worked on a project which she called 'Las Siete Almas de los Egipcios' (the seven souls of the egyptians) this is the work that i was inspired by. this series consisted of a series of embroidered photographic cancases ritualistic in creation and scientific in form featuring physiological patterns onto photographs of both her and her daughters bodies. her work emphasizes the interwoven nature of mankinds place in the universe. she wanted people to see people as a part of an ainchent chain linking back to the origin of life; a combination of molecules, patterns and small organisms, as opposed to individuals seperated from one another. in her more recent projects gomez has experimented with video instilations, stop-motion animations and video projection, these have led her to partake in different diverse collectives and festival in spain, argentina as well as chile. juana gomez graduated from universidad catolica de chile with a bachelors degree in art, her work has since been exhibited to great aclaim in chile. one of the reasons i picked her as a photographer to look into was the idea behind her work, the idea of reminding people of how their alive through drawing focus to the bodys structure inspired me. the process behind her work consits of photographing section of the body and printing them onto fabric. after she embroiders over these photos with bright coloured thread, this adds emphasise to the patterns she creates over top of the image.

for this strand i used this photographer as inspiration and took photos of different parts of peoples bodys such as arms, the neck as well as peoples faces. in editing this i then added aspects of the inner body ontop of the body parts used in the photo.

Strand three - Andy Yeung
andy yeung was born and raised in hong-kong, he recieved his dads old camera at an early age as a hand-me-down. this exposure to photography at an early age introduced him to photography and started his love for it. He is a photographer who focuses on landscape, aerial and architecture photography. he first started working on photography in 2005 and is very passionate about it and the creative process surrounding it, he belives that photography has a healing power which increases his enthusiasm for it. he learned to obtain inspiratin from familiarity in hong-kong when producing shots of the over photographed city. he believes that 'capturing great moments and transforming what ive seen into something new and artistic is a rewarding experience.' he produced a series of aerial photography, this included the peice urban jungle which attracted attention internationally. he has also worked with many newspapers and compainies such as BBC, CNN and DJI. his aerial work has a sense of symetry to it making it seem reflected, this is this inspiration for this strand i wanted to create a similar effect to Yeungs work through creating mirrored edits of buildings ive photographed, this creates an interesting effect to the photograph and captures attention, creating an almost abstract peice.
for this strand i took photos of different buildings, looking up at them reflecting the perspective of what people see walking around london, the idea of then reflecting these images creates an abstract view of something people see everyday, skewing their view of the buildings. once i had my photos i used photoshop to create the mirroed images.

Some could have more writing on how you responded to the artist, like what you tried to do to make yohr photos similar to the artists
Good quality and quantity of photos. Maybe add more self evaluation after each edit.
this feedback has told me that i need to add more annotations to my work.
